It’s always too soon

“You are more prepared than you realize. You probably aren’t ready, and you can’t be ready, not if you’re doing something worthwhile.

Because we always do our best work and take our turn before we’re ready.”

As someone who had been getting ready to get ready to get ready, before I had my epiphany and actually committed to blogging and stopped procrastinating, boy do these words by Seth Godin ring true.

According to Dictionary.com, being ready means “completely prepared or in fit condition for immediate action or use,” or according to Merriam Webster, “prepared mentally or physically for some experience or action.

So, what does it take to be ready? Well, in my experience, always more than I have at the moment. Hence a great reason to procrastinate, and wait until that magic moment of readiness.

The trouble is, we’re probably never going to feel really ready when it comes to the big things in life….. there is always more to learn, more confidence to feel. And if we’re lucky, we find ourselves in the position where suddenly it’s obvious it’s our turn and it’s our time and it’s time to jump. So then, what do we do?

Back down the mountain, retreat, find so many good reasons why we’re just not ready?

Because the Universe seems to have its own timing, ever notice that?

So, are you ready to take your turn, brave reader?

A pause for reflection along the blogging trail

I sense a change in you,” says a good friend.

You’re happier,” answers my hubby when I asked him if he had noticed any changes in me since I started my blogging commitment  2 months ago.

Well, 36 blog posts later, it seems like a good time to pull off my backpack, pull out my bag of paleo trail mix and sit a while and reflect on my blogging journey. Like any journey, it’s had its surprises, challenges, discoveries and joys.

Having set off without a map, I’ve been guided by the compass of my inner voice, supported by my partnership with the Divine, doing my best to get out of my own way and allow That which seeks expression to have its way through me.

So here are some lessons I’ve learned along the way. I’m sharing them in the hopes that they may inspire you on your own journey to greater self-expression, whatever form that may take.

  • It’s not necessary to be perfect in order to out yourself out there.
  • It’s actually perfectly OK not to be perfect in order to put yourself out there.
  • People appreciate vulnerability.
  • You have no idea where your words will go, and whose heart they will touch.
  • There is a deep sense of satisfaction that comes from bridging the gap between “I want to do it” and “I am doing it.”
  • Sometimes you get to a river and you have no idea how to ford it. That’s when you trust and jump in and find it wasn’t as deep as you thought, or a log comes floating by you can hang on to.
  • Sometimes there is a fork in the road and you’re not sure which way to go. It turns out there are really no wrong turns, only different choices.
  • You never know who is going to reach out and lend you a helping hand.
  • You can keep going even when you think you can’t. You just take the next step.
  • The world is waiting for that which only you can give.

What is waiting to be born through you, dearest reader?

PS In case you missed the beginning of my blogging journey, and would like to see how it all started, you can catch up here:

Momentum – full speed ahead

Have you noticed that when you make one significant change in your life, it creates a momentum all of its own?

You get fed up with the way things are. You’re tired of doing the same thing, and getting the same results.  You’re fed up with your own excuses.

That’s what happened to me when I got to that point where I decided to do something different.  In case you missed my two previous posts, you can read all about how I kicked procrastination in the butt here

You see, I’ve been a closet writer and didn’t even know it!  The more I blog, the more I want to write. The more I write, the more I think about things to write about. The more I think about things, the more deeply I experience and process my own life.

The more deeply I process my own experiences, the more insights I get into my life. The more insights I get into my life, the more I want to share them.  The more I share them, the more I engage with you, my dear readers.

The more I engage with you, the more I realize we are all connected. Despite our unique variations, our individual stories, our different journeys, we share this one human experience, embedded in a living universe in which we are all related in this great web of life.

The more I feel this deep connection and sense of global community, the more I can’t wait to jump out of bed in the morning.

And so it goes….. I wonder what will happen next?
